HearBeats is a simple app: the Apple Watch app measures your live heart rate and the iPhone app plays it back as sound. This page explains exactly what happens to your data.

What HearBeats reads

With your permission, the Apple Watch app starts a HealthKit workout session to read your live heart rate. This is the only health data HearBeats accesses.

What HearBeats does with it

• Your heart rate is sent directly from your Apple Watch to your paired iPhone over Apple's on-device WatchConnectivity framework — it never leaves your devices, is never sent to any server, and HearBeats has no server or backend of any kind.
• The iPhone app uses the number only to set the tempo of a synthesized "lub-dub" sound. Playing the sound is the entire purpose of the app.
• The workout session used to read your heart rate is discarded, not saved. HearBeats never writes anything to your Apple Health data, and does not request permission to.

What HearBeats does not do

• No accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising identifiers.
• No data is stored by HearBeats beyond the current live session in memory — closing the app discards everything.
• No data is shared with, sold to, or accessible by any third party.

Demo mode

HearBeats also has a Demo mode that lets you hear the app without a Watch, using a heart rate you set with a slider. Demo mode does not use HealthKit or any real health data at all.
